Mary Lee Shucart, Owner

Mary Lee has demonstrated success in the health care field as both an administrator and consultant for over 25 years.  In that time she has worked in single and multi-specialty practices, primary care, surgical groups and academic medical centers.  She has lead with a very hands-on approach to the daily operations of these organizations and has developed proven strategies in the management of billing, personnel, budgeting, marketing, contracting, accounts receivable, accounts payable and strategic planning.

Her initial introduction to health care began as an ASCP medical technologist where she ultimately managed a private clinical laboratory in St Louis.  She later moved on to work with practices ranging from solo practitioners to groups of 50+ physicians, and has used that experience to develop strategies that are key to the billing operations of S&S Healthcare Services.

Mary Lee’s expertise allows her to provide a range of operational services to medical group practices, including the following:

  • Medical Billing & Collection– performing all day to day billing functions for physician group practices, including claims submission, payment posting, claims follow-up, patient statements, and medical group financial accounting.
  • Human Resources – assisting with critical functions impacting effective human resource management, including evaluating resumes for qualified candidates, interviewing candidates and assisting with the hiring process, developing job descriptions and evaluating employee performance, facilitating communication among team members, etc.
  • Operational Consulting – assisting Administration with evaluating opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness with regard to internal work processes, including patient registration, patient flow, clinical and administrative staffing, etc.  Other areas of focus include patient communication, patient and physician satisfaction, and employee satisfaction.

Patrick Sulzberger, Owner

Patrick has over 17 years of health care experience working in the areas of revenue cycle management, operations improvement and Medicare reimbursement.

The first three years of his career were spent working for a Medicare Intermediary/Carrier.  Working with a wide range of health care organizations he developed an understanding of Medicare reimbursement and payment methodologies, including a focus on compliance regulations as a Medicare auditor.

Patrick spent ten years working for a Regional accounting firm in the health care consulting division.  Working with a diverse range of clients, his focus moved from reimbursement into the operations improvement area, which encompassed the essential daily activities driving operational performance in virtually every health care organization.  Patrick worked with a diverse team of health care professionals, including clinicians, certified professional coders, therapists, and former practice managers, further developing his understanding of health care operations.

In an effort to have more control over the client service process, Patrick began his career as a business owner during 2003, and continues to focus on the value-added operational services that are essential to the success of medical group practices, including the following:

  • Medical Billing & Collection– performing all day to day billing functions for physician group practices, including claims submission, payment posting, claims follow-up, patient statements and medical group financial accounting.
  • Benchmarking key performance indicators – labor efficiency, non-labor costs, quality indicators, etc.
  • Corporate Compliance Services – plan development and reviews, compliance effectiveness evaluations, facilitating risk assessments, education etc.
  • Strategic Planning – assistance with development of the annual business plan, budgeting, developing pro-forma analyses for new services, etc.
